It’s a stickup! Sam is a professional robber who’s never been caught. He’s so good, he actually knows the five stages that bank tellers go through when they’re being robbed, starting with denial. What he doesn’t know, however, is that after 322 jobs, only 18 of which are financial institutions, Mrs. Melcher is not prepared to give away the bank’s money. For another, perhaps she’s spent the past 44 years looking for this particular robber and now it’s his turn to discover that fifth stage, acceptance.
About this play: Terryl Paiste wrote this play to showcase the talents of two actor friends, Dominic and Louise. “Although Dominic is a retired FDIC auditor, he has never, ever (outside of this script) robbed a bank. We’re not sure about Louise,” says Paiste, a member of Playwrights Anonymous. This play is dedicated to them. It received the Best Original Play Award at the Washington D.C. Play Festival.
