About the Play

Roy G. Biv is the inspiring teacher whose impact on his wife, students, and larger community resonates long after his passing. Roy, a creative and sometimes unorthodox teacher, was adored by his students for his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support. The audience is transported back to the joyful and vibrant atmosphere of Roy’s classroom, where we witness his innovative teaching methods, boundless creativity, and the genuine care he showed his students.

The delightful play is an emotional journey, weaving together moments of joy, laughter, and sorrow. It’s a story that honors our teachers and the enduring connection we have with them, long after we have left the classroom.

From the Playwright:
We have all had a favorite teacher — a life force who could turn the dull routine of just another school day into an exciting or relevant moment that forever remains a moment frozen in time. That teacher is locked away in the pleasant part of our memories. Even if you never liked school, or the subject was dull, or if you were one of those people who had a bad attitude, or who had heard it all before, that teacher still stands before you and reminds you of your better self. I Love You When It’s Raining, Roy G. Biv is a memory play that pays homage to these great and good people who inspire us all long after we have left our school days behind.

I always enjoy a good challenge, and after writing a number of successful comedies for the stage, I wanted to give myself the challenge of taking on the story of Roy G. Biv, Dorothy, and the community that loves them.

About Martin R. Collin:
Martin R. Collin is a retired teacher and the former English Department Chairman and Theatre Director at a boarding school on the East Coast. He has directed over 120 plays. He is currently teaching mandolin, banjo, and guitar at a roots and folk music school.

Read about Martin R. Collin’s comedy: You Sir, Don’t Deserve This Sandwich. It’s a laugh-out-loud comedy with great characters, lots of action, and waiters who can’t sing!
