5 minute comedy
2 women, 1 either
Two women run into each other in a supermarket and exchange warm smiles while frantically asking themselves the same question: who is that woman? As they continue shopping, their thoughts race ahead of their manners, replaying past encounters neither wants to revisit. When recognition finally lands, it brings not relief but confirmation.
From the Playwright:
I was shopping in my local grocery store when I looked up and saw a woman I vaguely recognized but could not place. She smiled and said hello; I smiled back and said hello. Then we both continued shopping. Obviously, she had recognized me, too, but who was she? I hadn’t a clue. Finally, unable to restrain myself, I confronted her at the checkout counter. “Excuse me, but how do we know each other?” I asked her. “We were in a tai chi class together years ago,” she replied. Mystery solved. But what if the answer hadn’t been so tidy? What if our memories of each other had been much more unsavory? Ah! There’s a story!
What They Say:
• A quick, clever comedy about memory lapses, social niceties, and the very loud thoughts we keep to ourselves.
