Description
Gary Young
40 minute play for aging awareness
2 men, 2 women
About the play: Do the names Carol and Ted and Alice and Bob, perhaps two of the most famous couples of the 1970s, jog your memory? The names are the same, but the time and characters are different. Two couples, confronted by the reality of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, forge ahead into life’s undefined future with questions, humor, and honesty, discovering that most things boil down to the truth of “What is, is.”
This play is for all ages, and lends it self to post performance discussion if desired.
Love in 4/4 Time received a development grant from the Salvador Fund of Gorge Community Foundation and was presented as a dramatic reading by Adult Center Theater as part of Older American’s Month.
Here’s what they’re saying about the play:
- I could see my parents in the characters. I was the daughter helping to support my parents.
- Loved the different perspectives shown by the four characters.
- Carol and Bob in bathrobes offered a touch of hope.
- Kudos to Gary Young. His background as a pastor and a hospice chaplain are evident in how he handles the characters and topic of Alzheimer’s Disease.
It takes a certain amount of courage to consider performing this play. It is both educational and entertaining; funny and poignant. — J. Liggett

These encounters became a core influence of the play.” His acting roles include the Stage Manager in Our Town and Ebenezer Scrooge in his own adaptation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street are among his directorial credits. He is the founder of ACT, the Adult Center Theatre.
