After 51 years married to a pushy, loud, know‑it‑all husband, Edna has finally broken free. For the first time in her life, she takes a vacation on her own, an adventure all the way to Indonesia. There, she experiences jungles, coral reefs, rice fields, and even an outdoor bathroom “with a view.” She discovers that people are genuinely interested in what she has to say, and not only when she’s bargaining in a market.
Now, standing in a U.S. airport on her return trip, she realizes that leaving home was surprisingly easy—deciding what to do is much harder.
Set in 1995, the play reflects the playwright’s belief that: “This story speaks to women who love their husbands and families. Those who didn’t grow up with this kind of loyalty to tradition may find it old‑fashioned. But if we view everything only through the eyes of a younger generation, we lose hindsight. And hindsight is the greatest teacher of all.”
