Description

Eric Weil
less than 10 minute comedy
3 women

Three witches gather to prepare for their famous meeting with Macbeth, but their conversation quickly veers into hilarious debates about rhymes, titles, and what exactly a “hurlyburly” is. Bea is businesslike, trying to
keep the others focused. Vi, the middle “sister,” wants more responsibility, but can she handle it? And Roz’s curiosity about language frustrates the others.
Between recipe complaints and fashion commentary, they mix Shakespearean lines with modern attitudes, creating a playful clash of eras. Their banter spirals through math puzzles, pronunciation arguments, and unexpected musings about Scottish versus Irish roots. Just as they finally get their lines straight, a dramatic entrance looms, setting the stage for the chaos Macbeth will bring. This clever comedy offers actors quick wit, theatrical fun, and a fresh twist on a classic moment.

From the Playwright:

I’m a retired English professor. Although my major field is American Lit, I taught at a small college, and when the resident Shakespearean left, I took over the Shakespeare course. I found that writing parodies helped me to bring some humor to my teaching. Waiting for Macbeth is a prequel to the play, focused on the witches preparing for their encounter with Macbeth and Banquo. I named the witches after my favorite comic heroines: Beatrice, Viola, and Rosalind.
