Lucille, a bold woman in her sixties, shows up for a waitstaff interview and refuses to accept the polite runaround she’s given. What begins as a laugh-out-loud showdown slowly exposes the manager’s unease and the quiet rules about who belongs where. Beneath the laughs runs a tender current of grief, memory, and the sustaining presence of a husband who always believed in her. By the end, Lucille leaves with her pride fully intact and a clear sense that her future still belongs to her.
About the playwright: Shelli Pentimall Bookler holds an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Temple University, and an M.A. in Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University. She was the New American Voices Playwriting Series finalist, Midwest Dramatist Center’s Playwriting Conference finalist, and American Association of Community Theatre semi-finalist. Her mission is to give voice to unique characters and create conversations for audiences.
