About the play: A couple in their seventies urgently culls through old photographs and letters, contesting each other’s memory of a special romance. The floor is strewn with scissored and shredded photographs, until visited by the memory of a central figure from their youth, each comes to better understand and accept the nature of memory, love, and loyalty. So nice!
The playwright’s inspiration:
I wrote this play to show how secrets affect a marriage. When you reveal a secret, it can challenge or affirm the myths and memories central to the other person’s happiness and sense of self. Affirming each other’s memories can be the key to a happy marriage. -Stephen Sossaman
About the playwright: Stephen Sossaman teaches playwriting, creative writing, and other classes at Westfield State University in Massachusetts, where he is now Emeritus Professor of English.
Alice and Charlie Forget About Sally and Eddie has had readings in Charlottesville, Virginia’s Live Arts, and Massachusetts’ North Hall, in Huntington, and Westfield State University. It was accepted by The Theater Studio in New York, was a Finalist in the Drury College one-act play competition, a Finalist in the Attic Theatre Centre One Act Play Marathon, and a Semi-finalist with the Dubuque Fine Arts Players.
