STAR–Senior Theater Acting Repertory

STAR funny faces less cropped

STAR is a group of senior performers who have been entertaining in Queens, New York, for over 30 years. They are committed to serving the diverse culture of Queens and surrounding communities with live theatrical programs that entertain, inspire, and educate their audiences. The group consists of actors, singers, technicians, and playwrights who integrate short comedic one acts and sing-a-longs in programs that ignite sparks of happiness. They perform daytime shows at libraries, senior centers, sororities, churches, temples, veterans’ homes, and rehab centers. STAR participates monthly in the Queens Mail a Book Program which reaches out to listeners at home with an interactive teleconference performance. Members, who are between age 50-90+, enjoy showcasing their talents and promoting a positive image of older, ‘Young at Heart’ adults.

STAR has appeared on Queens Public Access television and was the first community theatre group chosen to participate in an ongoing cultural festival held at Queens Theater in the Park. The company was also selected by the Queens Museum of Art for the 60th anniversary of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. In recognition of its aims and efforts, STAR has received grants from the Queens Council on the Arts and The Josephine Foundation.

STAR is currently looking for seniors who wish to volunteer their time as actors, singers, stage hands, or tech supporters. The group rehearses and performs on Wednesdays and Fridays during the day.
