Judith Allen
15 minute comedy
2 women
Two longtime friends, Liz Ryan and Elsie Schaffer, reunite in the afterlife for whiskey and Scrabble—but as tiles click and old wounds surface, their playful banter unravels into raw confessions about immigration, marriage, class, and decades of buried envy. When a lost round forces Elsie to admit the jealousy she hid for years, Liz answers with a revelation that upends everything they believed about love and loyalty. As the game—and their fragile truce—careens toward a mysterious offstage summons, both women face a choice: let the truth heal them, or let it shatter the only bond they have left.
Directing Judith Allen’s “Secrets in the Clouds” was an absolute delight! Judith’s characters have a fantastic rapport, and they banter together as real as any two life-long “besties.” But the biggest reward in this show is the lesson it teaches: even through many years, love is always present and is real as what you see right in front of you. —C.
