Frank Canino trained and worked in Canada, England, Poland, France, and the U.S. as director, actor, teacher, and dramaturg. Writing projects range from film scripts to musicals, and dramas. His awards include a Toronto Arts Council Grant and from the Canada Council of Arts, in addition to thirty citations for various scripts. His plays have been read, workshopped, and produced in New York, Toronto Buffalo, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sarasota, Hartford, Oklahoma City, Anchorage, and Memphis, among other places.
He was a member at the Shenandoah International Playwrights Retreat and has worked with Judith Thompson at Booming Ground and with Romulus Linney at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and was an invited member at the Last FrontierEdward Albee Playwrights Conference in Valdez, Alaska. Other residencies include: Sage Hill Playwrights Lab, the Banff Radio Drama Workshop, the Humber Writers Workshop and the U. of Toronto Writers’ Workshop.
Several of his short pieces have been produced Off-Oft-Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Source/Homogenius Festival, Expanded Arts, Synchronicity Theatre Group, Myriad Arts Festival, Lamia Ink! Festival, and Theatrix Shorts Festival. Toronto productions include the New Ideas Festival, Festiva of Original Theatre, and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.
