Bonnie's Column

It's almost Spring! It can't come soon enough--Here in Oregon we've had the wettest winter in years. But Spring is a time for hopefulness, brightness, and a chance to feel the quickening of the world's rhythms. Here at ArtAge it's a busy time. We're gearing up for the Senior Theatre Program at the August conference and starting to solicit plays for our next catalog.

Most of all we are grateful for all the many wonderful Senior Theatre lovers who frequently tell us, "We love your stuff!" It's a pleasure to bring the collection to you throughout the year, but especially in Spring!

Yours in Theatre,

Bonnie L. Vorenberg
President, ArtAge Publications

Profiles in Senior Theatre:
Maria Capone Goodwin

Maria Capone Goodwin (in the white blouse) dancing

This season marks the 25th year that The Silver Foxes, Venice Theatre’s over-55 senior troupe, has entertained audiences in the the Venice, Florida area. The theatre has sponsored the senior group since they began in 1993. And I have had the great fortune to be a part of it for the last five years!

Our company of actors, singers, and dancers are directed by Brad Wages, who produces a top-notch show each March on Venice Theatre’s Main Stage. We present five performances, often playing to sold-out audiences. Besides rehearsals for the new show, we present Roadshows throughout the season to communities and organizations which pay us to entertain their residents. The funds from the Roadshows are used to help kids attend theatre camp and for other programs at the theatre.

Being a tap dancer with The Silver Foxes has been the greatest joy of my adult life! Having a dance background from many years ago, I’m back doing what I love. Three days a week I wake up and go to the theatre for rehearsals and tap classes and love every minute! And performing in Roadshows and our yearly production gives me such enjoyment. The added benefit is that my brain and body are getting exercise. But also, who knew along the way, I would meet a group of people who have become such special friends and are now like a family to me?

I am proud to say I am a Silver Fox! My theatre life is in full swing and I expect to be part of this Senior Theatre for many years to come!

Featured show:
Does This Show Make My
Butt Look Fat?

Joni Hilton
1 hour comedy
1-6 women, or up to any number of women

This show is as funny as its title. A group of senior women take you on a comic romp through the trials and tribulations of womanhood including weight, dating, and looking good. The show is full of character, charm, and laugh-out loud humor. Best of all, the show celebrates self acceptance and a reminder of the things that really matter.

A script for all women and anyone who has ever loved one. A hysterical and truthful view of what we fear most and question most often. We laughed all the way through our rehearsals and the audience howled! –Gina Bikales, Script2Stage2Screen
