Marian and Booney at age 95, April 2019

Bonnie's Column:

We just came back from visiting my mother-in-law, Marian, who reminded me about the strength and value of love.

It was in high school when Marian met Booney. He was a funny, clever guy who loved to tell her stories as they walked a long way to the downtown movie theatre. Their connection was like "Magic," she says. Unfortunately, World War II took them in different directions. There were other husbands, wives, and then children. But Marian never stopped thinking of him and Booney carried a picture of Marian in his wallet every day of his life!

Years later, Marian was shopping in a local grocery store when who did she meet but, "Booney!" Now they are both 95 years old. Though they struggle with the challenges of aging, their shared history brings them happiness and a connection that is still like "Magic!"

In this month's issue, we celebrate love and tip the hat to those who are lucky enough to have long term love like Marian and Booney!

Send in Your Plays by July 15

Act now! There are only a few weeks left to send in your plays, books, and materials for our 2020-2021 catalog. Our goal is to meet the needs of older performers, from amateur to professional, so the catalog has something for everyone.

We look for comedies with mainly female casts that require few technical elements and ones that can be staged as readers theatre. Successfully performed shows have senior casts with up-to-date, feisty characters in modern and relatable situations. Well-written roles should challenge performers, yet be fun to stage.

Before you send material, please review our catalog and read Writing Plays for Senior Theatre. Check out the Writers' Guidelines to learn more about our submission guidelines and where to send your hard copy materials.

Listen to our Writing Plays for Senior Theatre Discussion Group to learn about the types of plays for Senior Theatre we're looking for, including popular themes, characters, and more. For only $15, we'll send you a link to a recording of the session. Click here to purchase the recording.

We look forward to reading your work!
