Bonnie's Column:
Technology comes to Senior Theatre
Seniors love their electronic gadgets. They cruise
the internet with abandon, share connections on Facebook, and Skype
with grandchildren. But, I’ve been wondering how have older adults
adapted technology to Senior Theatre? How are they taking
advantage of it to build and market their Senior Theatre
companies? How is it used in rehearsal and performance?
To answer these questions, we’ve created a Technology and Senior
Theatre Survey so we can better understand how you're implementing
it in your creative work. Your responses will guide us as we help
you utilize it more efficiently.
This month, we feature plays that focus on Technology. You’ll find
characters frustrated with tech support, ones who have sent
e-blasts to the wrong people with terrible and fun consequences,
along with others who have fallen under the telemarketer’s spell.
Actors and audience members relate and laugh out loud!
If you’d like to read more about how older adults are including
technology in their lives, turn to this excellent article, Tech Adoption Climbs Among Older Adults.
Again, thanks for helping us with the survey!

Send in Your Plays
Every two years we hold a reading season to
pick plays for the next catalog. Now is the time for us to
select new plays, books, and materials for our 2020-2021
catalog. Our goal is to meet the needs of older performers, from
amateur to professional, so the catalog has something for everyone,
from short and easy sketches to 3-act musicals.
What to
submit: The Senior Theatre collection features
plays and musicals of all lengths, but short shows which run up to
20 minutes are the most popular. Directors look for comedies with
mainly female casts that require few technical elements and ones
that can be staged as readers theatre. Successfully performed shows
have senior casts with up-to-date, feisty characters in modern and
relatable situations. Well-written roles should challenge
performers, yet be fun to stage.
Before you send material, please review our catalog and read Writing Plays for Senior Theatre. Check
out the Writers' Guidelines to learn more
about our submission guidelines and where to send your
hard copy materials. Deadline:
July 15, 2019
Learn more
