NEW!
ElderSpeak

Jeanette Mathewes Stevens

The lead character, after experiencing age discrimination in her work place and seeing how her mother is affected by ‘ElderSpeak’ at the health care facility, comes up with a plan. With the help of her Mom and other residents of Shadyview Meadows, they create a hilarious change of attitude for staff members.

The play refers to ‘ElderSpeak,’ belittling forms of speech directed towards older people. Without thinking, many of us talk down to seniors, using and accepting ‘ElderSpeak.’ Here the topic is addressed with sensitivity and humor without finger pointing or judgment.

Performances have been well received at retirement homes, senior centers, and conferences for health care professionals.

NEW!
Silence

Brandon Daughtry Slocum

This surprisingly funny short play features roles for two strong senior actresses. The recently widowed Jennie is taken under the wing of her somewhat eccentric and opinionated neighbor, Bettie, a veteran widow who explains the tangled maze of learning to live without your spouse. Filled with sound advice about what to do and what not to do when your loved one dies, this play affects audiences strongly, most often leaving them laughing through tears.

Ann Pugh

5 women or 4 women/1 man
20 minutes

Performers have been enjoying Ann Pugh’s as the author of The Day They Kidnapped Blanche  and The Christmas Coffee, both are popular scripts in our collection.

This tribute to volunteers can be easily performed by novices who can read the script. It’s a comedy that is fun for both performers and the audience.

The play centers on a televised tribute to volunteers moderated by Megs Abbott, a popular TV personality who is substituting for "Opal" on the show. Her guests are stellar volunteers. They present funny and quirky adventures, “moments,” that have been submitted to the TV show from folks around the nation. The well defined characters clash during the production but in the end, are brought together by the warm spirit of volunteering.

Senior Theatre companies and volunteer organizations will enjoy this theatrical tribute that's fun and easy to perform.

“Delightful, I burst out laughing...wonderful! A hit! Jessica Cunningham, Volunteer Cordinator, Redding CA

standingSTANDING OVATION: Performing Social Science Research about Cancer

by Ross Gray and Christina Sinding

"A senior theatre company, Act II Studio, is approached by a Canadian center about transforming their social science research into a play about breast cancer. What resulted was the phenomenon, "Handle With Care?" which had over 200 performances across Canada and in the U.S., and became the subject of a documentary film. "Standing Ovation" traces the project from the first meeting of the actors and researchers to the rigors of touring a hit. This is an essential book for those theatre groups interested in working on projects aimed at social change." Includes book and video.
