The Unexpected Company Time and Time Again Players has seniors center stage in Laramie Wyoming. In 2005, nine seniors, spearheaded by longtime professional resident Germaine St. John, each possessing a unique knowledge of theatrical production, costume design, directing, publicity, and acting made Senior Theatre a ‘household name.’
Our first production in May 2005, “Hot Flashes,” was sold out weeks before the show. In October we staged the “Golden Age of Radio…Comedy Legends of the 1940’s.” In May 2006, we presented “Founding Mothers...and Others.” In May 2007, “Fables, Foibles and Follies of Laramie City” brought the history of Laramie, Wyoming from 1866-1899 to life. Each production has sold out quickly.
Shows are staged at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center, adjacent to the Laramie Plains Museum, a historic mansion in the heart of the City. Seating is limited. A reception and /or refreshments are served either before or at intermission and the building is always decorated in a motif applicable to the story line of the play. In “Fables…” as the audience entered the facility, they entered into an old hotel dining room which set the stage for the production.
Profits from the productions have been donated to the Laramie Plains Museum to further the restoration of the Alice Hardie Stevens Center and the Laramie Plains Museum. So far, the Unexpected Company has donated in excess of $15,000 to the project.
In April 2008, the Unexpected Company, presented another original production entitled “Grecian Formula.” The script was based on the 50th Class Reunion of the cast of “Grease.” A hilarious comedy, it was well received in the community and, once again, the performances were sold-out even before the production opened.
On July 31, 2008, a condensed version of “Fables, Foibles and Follies of Laramie City” will be presented at the AHTE Conference in Denver.
