The Senior Star Showcase has featured seniors 55 years of age and older since the early 1980’s when Arne Lindquist, the troupe's managing director and conductor, created a senior choir of 16 singers. After a few years of producing choral concerts, the membership grew and they began to produce complete theatrical productions. The first Broadway production was Oklahoma, followed by Guys and Dolls, Annie Get Your Gun, Pajama Game, Hello Dolly, Kiss Me Kate, Can Can, State Fair, Li'l Abner, Music Man, and Scrooge the Musical. Each year the Senior Star Showcase produces a well-known musical along with an originally scripted show which goes on to become a touring show around the country.
In addition to the two major productions on the Community College of Baltimore County campus, the Senior Star Showcase performs about 35 times a year on tour around the Baltimore/Washington area for local colleges, civic organizations, churches, synagogues, nursing homes, senior centers and retirement communities.
The Senior Star Showcase has performed four times in Las Vegas for the Senior Theatre Festival, in New York for NYU, in Washington D.C. for the National Endowment for the Arts, and for many colleges in the Maryland area. In 1999 the Senior Star Showcase, in consortium with the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, hosted an international festival for senior theatre performers. With workshops at the Omni Hotel and performances on the Disney World stages, we attracted groups from around the country as well as ones from Germany and England.
