The Sarasota Senior Theater performs musical variety shows, dramas, and intergenerational projects. From flappers to the Zigfield Follies, from creative short plays to serious drama and hilarious comedy, the creations of the Sarasota Senior Theater presents entertainment for all ages. Sell-out audiences keep coming back show after show!
The Sarasota Senior Theater, a non-profit organization, has performed in many locations in and around Sarasota. They tour to many sites including an appearance at the International Senior Theater Conference in Columbus, Ohio. It’s founder and president, Irene Silver, received the Golden Gavel Award for community service from the Sarasota Herald Tribune.
The goal of the company is to highlight the talents of creative older adults who are over fifty-five. The seniors in the shows, many who are new to the performing arts, have discovered that participating is fun and challenging and the applause is exhilarating and empowering. Audience members often say, “These seniors are truly inspirational!”
The company’s intergenerational projects create connections with youngsters in the community. It gives the youngsters and the oldsters an opportunity to work together as they learn how to act, dance, sing, write plays and craft musicals.
