SCROOGE WITH A TWIST
by Martha McMillen
1man, 6 women, plus 12 either in flexible cast

40-minute musical plus carols

Scrooge with a Twist is a delightful retelling of the beloved Christmas story which indeed has many twists. These funny, unexpected turns in the story combined with some audience participation make it fresh and entertaining piece for any audience.

The play revolves around an actor who comes to auditions to play the part of a really “bad guy.” He finds out that he isn’t that type at all and though the narrator prods him to be “bad,” it’s just not possible. What makes the show unique is that is performed in readers theatre style with some audience participation. the format combines familiar Christmas carols, a Greek chorus, and the usual “Scrooge” characters.

I highly recommend “Scrooge with a Twist!” Georgia Hamilton Silvertones, Music Director, Wheaton Park District

FRANK’S 75th CHRISTMAS
by Brandon Doughtry Slocum

Gender-flexible cast of 11 seniors
15-20 minute comedy
Royalty: $20

Your audience will laugh their way through this short holiday play about a Scrooge-type character that gets a special visit on Christmas Eve which changes his bad attitude and his listless life. Set in a Florida retirement community, the play features great small character parts that require little memorization and present seniors as vital members of society making a difference in their community.

This feel-good Christmas show is fun and entertaining but also makes a statement about post-retirement depression and finding a sense of self-worth through helping others. Simple staging, modem costuming, and easy-to-follow stage directions make this a low-cost and stress-free production for your holiday celebration. Frank’s 75th Christmas was written for and performed by a Senior Theatre Company, premiering to a standing-room only crowd.

Brandon writes in a voice seniors recognize and relate to...the play gets across an important message without being preachy...and those Swann sisters are the funniest things I have seen in a long time. Bettie Wilkie, Executive Director, The John. T. O'Connor Senior Center

Memories of Wond Life smallerNEW!
MEMORIES OF A WONDERFUL LIFE
by Jonathan M. Zaley

3 men, 1 woman (the "heavenly" part of Joseph is done backstage as voice only and can easily be done with a pre-recording as well), plus audience participants.  80-minutes+ (pending adlib with audience reaction)

You may be familiar with the annual television classic, It's A Wonderful Life, but this LIVE theatrical version has a little twist!

Red-hatted Clarence A-S-2 (Angel, Second Class, y'know) and George lead the audience on a journey where the audience gets to play the characters of Bedford Falls, New York. Narrated by an elderly woman and with the help of the cast, they guide the audience through the story using props and feeding them lines to keep everything moving along. It turns into one hilarious show as audience members try to do their part to keep the story going; and, are touched by this heart-warming story as one man rediscovers a life full of blessings...and a daughter fondly remembers a childhood from long ago.

MERRY CHRISTMAS CAPER
By D.K. Oklahoma

  • 9 characters: 4 males, 5 females (plus 2 young adults 1M/1W)
  • Length: 60 minutes
  • Royalty: $20

Someone has broken into the Senior Center and stolen all the food for the holiday Meals on Wheels, including 23 canned hams. Two homeless runaways are discovered hiding in the Center’s attic and the Sewing Circle ladies are drawn into a potentially dangerous plan to shelter them over the holiday. Can they do all this and still finish their teddy bear project on time? And what if the Center’s nasty director discovers the fugitives?

This is a holiday play that’s filled with typical Senior Center characters. Some are caring and loving while others are pretentious and snippy. The situation pulls them all together so that the holiday season is good for everyone.
