GIN AND TONIC

A 10-minute comedy

1 male, 1 female role

This laugh-out-loud comedy offers a delightfully fresh look at the problems of senior dating.  Olive is having a bad day, when she is interrupted by Stanley, a brash fellow who seems to have mistaken her office for the nearby Senior Dating Service.  Despite her caustic responses, Stanley is positive that she is the one he came  to meet.  As he tries in a variety of ways to impress her, the verbal duel between this overage Romeo and a very reluctant Juliet becomes increasingly hilarious.

“I still get more comment on John Clifford’s plays than any others we’ve done. They are funny, warm, wise and compassionate.  Audiences love them.”  Mary Doveton, Managing Director,   Lawrence Community Theatre

Author bio: John Clifford began writing jokes for radio comedians at age eighteen and has been a professional writer ever since.  Films he scripted have received dozens of national and international awards, and led to his being interviewed on public radio’s Fresh Air, as well as Entertainment Tonight and other television programs.

In his “retirement’ years he turned to writing plays, including those especially for, and featuring, his contemporaries.  His plays have received performance grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and, most recently he won the Playwright’s Fellowship offered by the Kansas Arts Commission.  He currently is a resident playwright and actor with the Vintage Players of Lawrence, Kansas, where he first introduced and continues to perform in Gin and Tonic.
