Twila Stern, a Radio City Music Hall Rockette, teaches teach tap dance to seniors at her Forever Young Dance Center in Scottsdale, AZ. That’s where her group, the Forever Young Dancers, learns how to thrill audiences. They have performed in Hollywood, Las Vegas, throughout the Valley of the Sun, in Denmark, Russia, England, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Spain, Greece, Switzerland and Germany. They were featured in NBC’s Second Chance: Search for America’s Most Talented Senior, where they performed an opening number with host Mario Lopez.
The special secret of the Forever Young Dancers is that most of them have passed their 60th birthday. They started tap dancing for many reasons like to lessen the burden of sad memories or to open new doors.
A member of Dance Masters of America, Twila promotes the many therapeutic benefits from tap dance. She also teaches a medically approved exercise program that includes special exercises for relief of varicose veins, insomnia, and other ailments.
Learning to tap dance as a senior is rewarding. You don't need a partner. It builds self esteem, increases heart rate, keeps your mind alert, while you learn new steps and meet new people. Best of all you feel good about yourself.
